Frugal Summer Hostess Gifts

VIDEO: ‘Tis the season for outdoor entertaining! If you’re heading to a garden party, skip the standard bottle of wine as a hostess gift—take a homemade and frugal gift for the host and stand out from the crowd! I recently shared three ideas on CTV’s Canada AM. These are easy to assemble and will definitely be appreciated when received. Go ahead and make all three in advance and then just grab ‘n go when the party invite comes along! Watch the SEGMENT HERE!

This is an amazing hand scrub that will clean the greenest of green thumbs! Perfect for any hostess who likes to garden and takes pride in landscaping. Mix 1/3 cup cane sugar with 2/3 cups dish washing liquid soap. Pour into a small jar and embellish with a nail brush and stir sticks.

An oldie but goodie. This deconstructed packaging of lemonade ingredients is sure to make anyone smile. Perfect for any hostess who likes dining alfresco. Follow a seven to one ratio. Seven fresh lemons, 1 cup sugar, seven cups water. Be sure to add some fun touches like a wooden stir spoon, a pretty tea towel, some fun glasses, etc.

This Italian mix of pickled vegetables couldn’t be simpler. The key ingredients are vinegar and seasonal vegetables. Perfect for any hostess who likes sweet & spicy condiments. The crunchier the vegetables, the better. I like to use a combination of carrots, cauliflower, hot peppers, green beans, and pearl onions. Pickling liquid: 3/4 cup water, 3/4 cup vinegar, 1 Tbsp sugar, 1 Tbsp salt, garlic and oregano.
