Budget Beauty Trends

Melody1

Spring is around the corner and one of my favourite ways to usher it in is with a visit to the cosmetic department. It’s the perfect season to refresh your beauty routine. These four trends are hot right now and definitely worth a try—especially since you can add them to your makeup kit on a dime.

ORANGE LIPSTICK

This happy, citrus hue is being seen on many runways and it’s a wonderful ‘pick me up’ shade. This trend is worth a try because there is an orange for everyone.  Peaches and corals look amazing on fair to medium skin tones and darker skin tones can carry off rich, fiery shades of tangerine.

PRO-TIP: Balance your orange lip against an even toned complexion, with minimal colour on eyes and cheeks. For a modern twist, pair your orange lip with a winged eye.

Try CoverGirl Lip Perfection in Temptation #285. It is neither too bright nor too bold.

BACK TO BASIC NAILS

Finally, we’re seeing the return of the uncomplicated, minimal manicure. Subtle flesh tones, whites and single shades with minor embellishment are on the rise.

PRO-TIP: Invest in a good quality polish and top coat. The few extra dollars you spend will be made back in a longer, and more vibrant, wear. Apply a clear top coat 2-3 times a week to keep your nails looking fresh.

Try Sephora’s Formula X in “Thrilling”. Its full coverage goes on like a dream and the light grey shade wears well with everything.

ETHEREAL EYES

This season it’s all about bright, youthful and goddess-like eyes. Reach for sheer and metallic eye shadows to achieve a barely-there luminous finish. This is one beauty look that you can love now, and well into the fall.

PRO-TIP: After applying your shadow, use the same brush to trace a soft line under your lower lash line. Add mascara, and you’re good to go!

Try the Marcelle Eye Shadow Quad in “Nouveau Nude”. It’s fabulous for all eye colours and ages.

CRISP & CLEAN SCENTS

Take a trip back in time when fragrances were made of simple, vibrant and pure notes. Classic floral scents like rose, and the smells of fresh picked fruit, are all floating on a soft breeze from the neighbours’ garden.

PRO-TIP: Spray perfume onto your bare skin before you get dressed. The fragrance will warm up and then waft around you throughout the day. Also, purse size sprays let you to blend notes like a pro so you can create a customized scent daily.

Try Sephora’s Atelier Cologne Discovery Coffret. It’s the most expensive item on this list but the set contains seven purse-size scents and is a delicious, and lasting, investment.
